Changes in New York Unemployment Insurance Rules

Pursuant to changes in New York’s unemployment insurance regulations effective this month, (1) an employer’s failure either to timely or completely respond to a New York State Department of Labor request for information on unemployment benefits claims may result in failure to credit the employer’s unemployment insurance account; and (2) if an employee receives severance pay within 30 days after the employee’s last day of employment which is greater than the maximum benefit rate, the employee will not be eligible to collect unemployment benefits.
