Multiple Dwelling Owners Must Make Stove Knob Covers Available to Tenants

Another recently enacted New York City local law requires that multiple dwelling owners must provide stove knob covers for each knob located on the front of each stove contained in a dwelling unit in which the owner knows or reasonably should know that a child under age six resides. The owner must provide tenants with an annual notice of this obligation.  The owner is not required to provide stove knob covers if a tenant notifies the owner in writing that the tenant refuses stove covers, or if the owner documents that there are no covers available that are compatible with a particular stove.  The local law applies to all multiple dwelling units other than cooperative and condominium units that are occupied as the tenant-shareholder’s or unit owner’s primary residence.  The law takes effect on December 9, 2018.
