U.S. Department Of Labor’s Wage And Hour Division Recovered $240 Million From Employers In Fiscal Year 2014

The U.S. Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division has reported that it recovered more than $240 million on behalf of workers during fiscal year 2014, and more than $1.3 billion since 2009. A good deal of these amounts was attributable to erroneous independent-contractor and exempt-employee misclassifications.  In agency-initiated audits, investigators reported finding at least one violation 78% of the time.
